“I imagine a world where well-being, community, and sustainability are valued, and groups that have long been excluded from economic discussions shape discourse, infusing it with new perspectives and experiences.”

Gabriela Chaves is an economist who works to democratize Brazil’s economy through accessible financial education. She is the founder of Nofront Empoderamento Financeiro, a financial literacy platform that provides tools and lessons for financial empowerment. Gabriela integrates feminist economic strategies, the care economy, and cultural references such as hip-hop to ensure that those from historically underrepresented communities, particularly Black women, better understand how money and markets affect their lives. Nofront Empoderamento Financeiro emphasizes initiatives such as strategies for personal debt reduction, individual financial planning and investing, and financial organization for entrepreneurs.

For Gabriela, centering the insights of Black women and other underrepresented communities is not only a tool for fighting economic inequality but also a way to bring new perspectives to a system long shaped by structural exclusion. By centering the perspectives of these communities, she hopes to help create a more just, sustainable, and life-affirming economic model that reshapes our understanding of value, prosperity, and well-being.
