“Our actions affect others in more ways than we can imagine. If empathy were more widely available and valued, there would be a stronger thrust towards undoing systems of inequality.”
Odun Orimolade, PhD, is a multidisciplinary artist, researcher, academic, and curator based in Lagos, Nigeria. She embraces experimental approaches that combine research and advocacy to help young people from underrepresented communities find their creative voices. As a creative practitioner, she uses art to foster civic engagement.
Odum combines her creative, research, curation, and academic activities to work toward ending inequality. She leads numerous collaborative projects and workshops in communities and is strongly invested in mentorship and empowering young people to engage in solutions for issues that affect them. She fosters support initiatives for learners and stages activities that invite interdisciplinary cooperation.
Odun believes that art is an essential component of effective communication and that true leadership comes from the ability to inspire others to work toward a collective goal. By combining her creative efforts with her academic work and her community advocacy, she believes it is possible to create space for people to explore empathy and work toward a world with greater equity and opportunity for all.
