Ford Foundation President Darren Walker sat down with Museum of Modern Art President Emerita Agnes Gund to talk about the need for greater diversity in the museum sector. “Museums are public institutions and need to reflect the public,” Darren said. The two went on to discuss the difficulty of breaking long-standing patterns and reflected on potential solutions.
Their videotaped conversation was hosted by the Association of Art Museum Directors, whose members Darren had addressed in January. “[Our] leadership wanted to share Walker’s passion for diversity in the arts with museum boards of trustees and staff,” AAMD said in a post accompanying the video. “We hope this video will act as a starting point for museum directors and boards to discuss diversity in their institutions.”
